There’s a lot of advice out there about choosing vendors. And in my opinion, much of it creates extra work for folks getting married that’s really unnecessary. For instance, some websites (I’m looking at you, The Knot) have enormous lists of questions to ask photographers: What gear do you use? What do you wear to the weddings? Do you require a meal? The truth is, the answers to most of these questions are totally irrelevant to the point of the inquisition: is this the right photographer for you? So I’ve put together this guide to help couples figure out if their photographer is the right one for them. I’m assuming here that we’re getting down to photographers in your budget.

It was about 9:30 this morning, when I saw a tweet from a local photographer, talking about shooting four blocks from the inauguration. Why the hell am I not shooting the inauguration? I thought to myself. And I didn’t have a good answer at all. I’d been thinking today was a stay-home-all-day sort of day, as the metro would be insane and the roads closed. But, f*ck it, I’m a damn street photographer! So I put on my shoes and caught the 9:45 bus. Then I watched Barack Obama get reinstated as President.

Excited to snag this year’s 2013 Bride’s Choice Award from Wedding Wire. The “award” is based on reviews from your clients, so it’s pretty great to get that recognition. Onnnnnnn the other hand, I was curious so I looked and no fewer than 139 photographers in DC received this year’s awards. So there’s that. (I put this here as a notice to non-experts – that is, my potential clients – that basically everyone gets this award so don’t give it too much weight in your decision who to hire.)
