Katherine & Jonathan | Baltimore Museum of Art wedding

I was very happy to be shooting with Sam Hurd again. Katherine and Jonathan tied the knot last year at the Baltimore Museum of Art, which is a happy three blocks down the street from my very best friend. I had an easy commute that night. They rented out Gertrude's, a lovely restaurant located inside the museum. We got to use the sculpture gardens for pictures. It was pretty much an incredibly awesome day. baltimore museum of art wedding photography And once again, can I just say that the light at the Hotel Monaco in Baltimore is gorgeous, beautiful, stunning, unending. I love love love shooting getting ready there. I need to rent it out for some boudoirs. getting ready photos at the hotel monaco bride gets ready on the wedding day in baltimore bridesmaids doing nails on the wedding day bride gets made up at the hotel monaco in baltimore bride and bridesmaids at the hotel monaco in baltimore bride puts on her dress at the baltimore hotel monaco bride on the phone at the hotel monaco We scooted to the Baltimore Museum of Art to do first look and portraits and things. first look at the baltimore museum of art bride and groom at the Baltimore museum of art bride in the dappled sunlight Here's Sam. sam hurd shooting a wedding cool wedding pictures with outdoor sculpture in baltimore And I am in no way trying to take credit for this, I just think it's so cool. There was this metal sculpture with a small opening - a slit, really - in it. Sam saw that and shot Katherine and Jonathan through the little hole - but it made such an awesome effect in the lens. I had to try it out myself and this is what happened. There's a little fountain that separates the ceremony from the guests and you have to walk over those three stepping stones in the middle to get to the altar. They had a sound system so you could hear everything - but it made for an incredible visual and it also had this really nice stage effect, even though they weren't elevated. I dug it so much. baltimore museum of art outdoor wedding at gertrude's fleeting glance at baltimore museum of art jewish wedding L'chaim! first kiss and breaking of the glass at baltimore museum of art jewish wedding Is there anything cuter than the two moms hugging? moms hugging at the baltimore museum of art wedding happy hugs at gertrude's in baltimore cool way a girl was holding her hands at baltimore wedding cutting the cake at gertrude's wedding first dance at wedding in gertrude's hora at gertrude's wedding bride spazzing out during hora at baltimore museum of art dance party at wedding at gertrude's in baltimore super long hair at the wedding reception mom laughing and dancing at baltimore museum of art wedding super cool guy at baltimore museum of art wedding crazy dance party at gertrude's more dance party at baltimore museum of art wedding people kissing at the end of the night people talking at the end of the night baltimore museum of art sign Such a great wedding. Allison & Mark | Rockville Courthouse wedding

Allison and Mark rock so much. They're super-happy-cuddly-giggly, which is hands-down my favorite quality in a couple. And Allison wore this amazing 50s polka-dot dress. And they were going to someplace called Spice Xing for lunch and they kept calling it "ex-ing". And they're librarians and arranged for us to do indoor portraits at a nearby library and it was an awesome library. And Mark has a Star Wars checkbook. And and and. I saw him speak at a wedding photography conference a couple weeks ago and he had an image with the same concept. It was sort of a mistake when it happened, but I just went with it, and liked it better than what I had in mind anyway. artistic library wedding photography Congratulations Allison & Mark! Amelia & Javier | Patapsco Female Institute wedding

When the coordinator (more on her later) told me Amelia and Javier's ceremony was only nine minutes, that didn't seem right.  I get in-the-zone during the ceremony so it's hard for me to judge how much time has passed, but I found it hard to believe that in nine minutes, they could pack in deep flushes, tears, words of wisdom from the officiant, handwritten vows and a whole lot of laughter.  Amelia and Javier had the most joyous recessional I've seen and I'm so glad I was there to snag it. wedding ceremony in ellicott city Their wedding was at the most fantastic venue ever, the Patapsco Female Institute (rental info here), the "ruins of a girls school" Amelia told me at our first meeting.  And that is exactly what the space is - no roof, half-walls, columns that lead to nowhere.  The space is maintained as-is - half falling apart, totally awesome.  Amelia and Javier's friends and family filled the space with all manner of joy and love and par-tay.  It was a good old time.
