Maria & Russell | Charlotte, NC destination wedding | Levine Museum of the New South

Maria and Russell have been all over my blog.  Since getting engaged last fall, I've photographed them at Roosevelt Island, where Russell proposed, and they were super-awesome in my promotional video.  But that was all in preparation for their ridiculously cool, family-filled, bangin' destination wedding at Charlotte's Levine Museum of the New South.  As always, Russell was super-hip and Maria was stunning. wedding photographer Amber Wilkie Their wedding favors pretty much say it all. fortune cookie wedding favors They both got ready in separate rooms at the Charlotte Marriott City Center. getting ready at charlotte city center marriott bride gets ready at charlotte, nc hotel charlotte destination wedding getting ready bride and friends help with getting ready in charlotte, nc Then we all headed a couple blocks over to the Levine Museum of the New South. Though Maria and Russell both live in Northern Virginia, they met in Charlotte, and so chose to do a Charlotte destination wedding.  The Levine museum was so cool, as you will see in a second. bride puts on garter at levine museum putting on the wedding dress at levine museum of the new south Meanwhile, the boys "invented" a new game that involved throwing bottle caps and, naturally, drinking beers. groom plays beer pong at levine museum of the new south bridal portrait at levine museum of the new south bride and bridesmaids at levine museum of the new south groom and groomsmen in charlotte, nc destination wedding groom portrait at charlotte destination wedding Toldja it was a cool museum.  There were a whole bunch of these little sets throughout the museum - a tiny church, even a "watching TV" mini set. Amanda & Jose | Old Town Alexandria wedding

Amanda and José got married in a lickety-split ceremony in a lawyer's office in Old Town Alexandria.  Then we hit up the surrounding neighborhood to grab some portraits.  These two may not have been throwing a huge nuptial bash, but they were plenty cute. old town alexandria wedding portraits And speaking of cute, they already made these two awesome little girls. sweet little girl in front of red door in old town alexandria little girl in old town alexandria wedding old town alexandria courthouse wedding They literally brought string to the ceremony to tie on each others' fingers. tying strings for old town alexandria wedding Yeah, this is just some alley across from the lawyer's office.  You gotta love Old Town. old town alexandria wedding portrait old town alexandria bridal portrait alexandria, virginia wedding portrait hands clasped with wedding strings old town alexandria wedding Congratulations you guys!

Anju & Brian | Dulles Marriott wedding

Anju and Brian couldn't constrain their awesome to just one wedding ceremony, so they had two.  In the morning, in the beautiful (but yes, very warm!) May sunshine, they held an Indian wedding with lots of vibrant reds and golds and tons of laughter.  And that night, everyone regrouped for a Western ceremony and more dancing than you can shake a stick at.  It was rad. photojournalism at indian wedding ceremony Whenever I show Indian weddings to Western couples, they always say "oh, the colors!"  It's kind of a funny on-command thing.  But, obviously, "oh, the colors!" bright red and yellow bouquet and indian wedding decorations mother of the groom shows her henna mother of bride during the indian wedding ceremony mother of the bride and bride during indian wedding outdoor indian wedding ceremony bride and her nephew at the indian wedding ceremony groom at indian wedding ceremony indian wedding ceremony rituals Big big thanks to Marcella for coming out to help with this one.  Below is hers and I've got a handful of others scattered in here.  Anju and Brian had the exact same idea on either side of the cloth and ambushed each other with rice when it was lowered. playing around at the dulles airport marriott wedding Anju has one of the all-time best laughs. laughing at the indian wedding ceremony bride and groom indian wedding nephew gives a kiss at the indian wedding ceremony tying the thali at the indian wedding  happy indian wedding ceremony moment parents of groom during the indian wedding ceremony walking around the indian wedding ceremony grandmother throws rice during indian wedding ceremony sisters participate in indian wedding ceremony bride and groom introduced at indian wedding ceremony mom hugs her daughter during family portraits The Dulles Airport Marriott may be right next to the airport, but they have a lovely little tree and pond area for portraits.  Middle of the woods, right? indian wedding photographer Amber Wilkie bride and groom portraits for indian wedding beautiful indian bride We had a nice break for lunch, during which Anju and Brian were hard at work finishing things up for the ceremony.  We rejoined them as they got ready for Part 2. little boy reads Pooh book during wedding mother of the bride watches her get dressed Indian and Western wedding at dulles airport marriott bride and groom portraits at dulles airport marriott feeding each other cake at the wedding reception Shot below is Marcellas - love it! beautiful first dance shot at dulles airport marriott dancing with kids at wedding reception DJ Wes spun the mad beats. dancing at the dulles airport marriott wedding little boy at the wedding reception break dancing during the wedding reception Towards the end of the night, Anju stole my camera. bride takes the photographer's camera But she gave it back. happy bride at wedding reception super-hip cats at wedding reception little boy dancing at the dulles airport marriott wedding bride and groom dancing during their wedding reception Congratulations, you guys!
